Mysterious spiral which seems like a small galaxy appeared in the Northern lights over Alaska: photos and videos

A white-blue spiral formation which looks like a small galaxy appeared over Alaska, suddenly, on Saturday morning, surprising the observers.

The phenomenon began as a bright light on the horizon transformed into a spiral shape as it moved across the sky over several minutes, according to the photographer Todd Salat, who had set up his cameras near the town of Delta Junction between Anchorage and Fairbanks.

This was a result from a Falcon-9 rocket which was launched a few hours ago from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. At high altitudes the fuel from the rocket turns into ice because of the cold temperatures and when it happens under sunlight and it’s dark, it can become visible as a cloud which sometimes can also swirl.

The phenomenon is not so mysterious as it happened sometimes in the past. For example, in January a similar spiral was spotted over Hawaii’s Big Island, which was a result of the launch of a military GPS satellite that lifted off on a SpaceX rocket in Florida.
